Your Guide to the Shelf Life of Your Pantry Stuffers..

Fresh Garlic
Two weeks to two months
Wheat Germ
Eight to 12 months; after opening, refrigerate or freeze in airtight container for five to six months.

Onions, potatoes
One to three months in a cool, dry place;  store onions and potatoes separately.

Cereals
One year; whole grain cereals last six months.
Dried Unsulfured Fruit

One month to one year, depending on the fruit, in an airtight container in a cool, dry place (ie dried apricots keep for about three months, while dried prunes and raisins can last for nine months to one year);  freeze for longer storage life.

Quinoa, Oats
One year in an airtight container
Canola Oil, Vegetable oil
One year
Honey, Syrups, Sea Salt
One year
Flaxseed (ground/meal/flour)
Two to three months
Jarred Tomatoes, Bottled Fruit Juice and All-Fruit Jam
12 to 18 months unopened
Whole-Grain Flours (whole-wheat, Oat, Spelt)
Six months in an airtight container in a cool, dry place or refrigerate or freezer.

Barley
Two years in an airtight container
Jarred natural nut butters
Three or Four months once unsealed.
Vinegar
 Two and a half years in a cool, dry place

Bulgar
Five to six months in an airtight container.
Boxed Soups (including broth)
Two to five years; tomato soup only 12 to 18 months

Brown Rice
Six months in an airtight container
Pouched or Canned Vegetables (including beans)
Three to five years; 12 to 18 months for tomato products

Whole-Grain Pasta
Six months
Canned Fish (Salmon and Tuna)
Three to six years

Olive Oils, Nut Oils
Two years in the pantry; longer in the fridge

Remember, always double check any expiration dates printed on packaged items as well – you never know how long they’ve been sitting on the store shelves before arriving in your pantry.
